The Council for Clean and Reliable Energy and its partners welcomed leaders in the energy sector to the 2026 CCRE Energy Leaders Roundtable held in Orangeville, Ontario. The Roundtable built on its long-term success by delivering several keynote addresses and expert panels introduced by brief presentations at the beginning of each session organized around a variety of timely and important topics.
As a broad and inclusive organization, with a governance and policy mandate, the Council hosted this Roundtable with the theme “Building for the Future: Can we achieve our objectives?” focused its keynote addresses and presentations around this topic.
Canada is at an energy crossroad – large forecast increases in electricity demand, climate and energy policies that favour electrification, and geopolitical challenges – all speak to the imperative to build new energy infrastructure that is cost effective and reliable. A number of supply-side challenges need to be overcome if Canada is to satisfy higher electricity demand at home and satisfy demand for oil and gas abroad. Can we achieve our objectives?
The event organizers and participants express their appreciation to Saga Williams, Michi Saagig, Anishinabeg Nation, Principal, AS Consulting, Senior Advisor, First Nations Major Projects Coalition for opening the Roundtable and for bringing a Territorial Welcome to the event. The greeting from her, as a knowledge keeper, welcomed guests to her traditional ancestral homeland.
We were pleased to have had Michael Rencheck, Executive Vice Chair, Bruce Power, James Scongack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Bruce Power, Anthony Haines, Chair, Panel for Utility Leadership and Service Excellence (PULSE), and Greg Lyle, President, Innovative Research Group deliver keynote addresses.
The keynote addresses and presentations included the following sessions:
- New Nuclear Generation: A discussion on the surge of activity around building new nuclear generation. What is the overview of possible projects and completion challenges?
- Can Canada Expand its Electricity System Fast Enough to Keep up with the Growing Energy Demand?
- Nuclear Development Project Progress
- The PULSE Report: Its Direction and Impact
- The LDCs Response to the PULSE Report
- Financing the Last Mile
- Public Opinion: Where do we stand on support for major projects? Where is the resistance, and is it likely to inhibit delivery?
- Politics and the Energy Sector

The Council remains committed to continuing to facilitate these important conversations and helping to shape the dialogue on energy policy for the benefit of all Canadians.
