2025 CCRE Energy Leaders Roundtable Kananaskis, Alberta

CCRE Kananaskis Roundtable, October 20-22, 2025

The Council for Clean and Reliable Energy and its partners welcomed leaders in the energy sector to the 2025 CCRE Energy Leaders Roundtable held in Kananaskis, Alberta. The Roundtable built on its long-term success by delivering several keynote addresses and expert panels introduced by brief presentations at the beginning of each session organized around a variety of timely and important topics.

As a broad and inclusive organization, with a governance and policy mandate, the Council hosted this Roundtable with the theme “The Role of Energy Infrastructure to Meet Canada’s Generational Challenge: Are we on track?” focused its keynote addresses and presentations around this topic. It is a pivotal moment for Canada to lay the groundwork to achieve its national goals and economic aspirations. New energy infrastructure will play a significant role reinforcing Canada’s sovereignty, realigning our trading and security relationships, and reaching our long-term economic potential. Executive thought leaders explored Canada on the forefront of building major projects and considered our ability to meet the generational challenge before us.

The event organizers and participants express their appreciation to Elder Delmar Holloway, Stoney Nakoda Nation and his helpers for opening the Roundtable with traditional pipe and smudge ceremonies, and for the honour to participate in the prayers and blessing offered by Elder Holloway that focused on open communications, respectful dialogue, and finding pathways for the energy challenges facing the country.

We were pleased to have had The Hon. Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Affordability and Utilities and Vice Chair of Treasury Board, Government of Alberta, Greg Lyle, President, Innovative Research Group deliver keynote addresses, and Kendall Dilling, President, Pathways Alliance participate in a Fireside Chat with David McFadden, Chair, Makwa Development Corporation.

The keynote addresses and presentations included the following sessions:

  • What does “Building Canada” mean for Alberta?
  • What is the nature of the generational change: Is Canada up for the Challenge?
  • How do we make the process outlined in Bill C-5 work?
  • Decarbonizing oil and gas production: opportunities and challenges
  • Oil and Gas: What additional projects should be considered?
  • Transmission Interconnectivity in the West: Opportunities and Challenges
  • Paying for Tomorrow’s Energy Infrastructure Today
  • Politics and the Energy Sector

The CCRE would like to thank and recognize our event supporters: Ivey Energy Policy and Management Centre, University of Western Ontario, Power Workers’ Union, School of Public Policy, University of Calgary, ATCO, EPCOR, Innovative Research Group and WPC Energy Canada.

The Council is a group of volunteers who have an interest in promoting open debate about energy issues. We do not represent a particular interest group and attempt to bring together a broad range of stakeholders who share an interest in promoting good governance and public policy for Canada’s energy sector. The Council remains committed to continuing to facilitate these important conversations and helping to shape the dialogue on energy policy for the benefit of all Canadians.

Thank you to our Speakers and Presenters

As an expression of appreciation to the Roundtable speakers and presenters, the CCRE has donated to the Friends of Kananaskis Country. Located in Southwest Alberta’s Eastern Slopes foothills and mountains, Kananaskis Country covers over 4,200 square kilometres of some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.

Friends of Kananaskis Country is a federally-registered charity committed to sharing this special place with the world through education, community engagement, and volunteer participation. The organization is aligned with the Government of Alberta’s vision of engaging the public in participating in the long-term use and enjoyment of Kananaskis Country though a Cooperating Agreement with Alberta Parks.

A community of over 1,600 individuals is committed to the balanced, sustainable use of Kananaskis Country, as well as the protection and sharing of its unique natural and cultural experiences. With over 5 million visits per year, and a population base exceeding 1 million bordering this natural wonderland, Kananaskis Country is not immune to development and use pressures.

Working collaboratively with its partners, programs and activities are developed that:

  • Actively protect the ecosystems within Kananaskis Country through trail care and other volunteer programs;
  • Educate people about the appropriate use of this natural treasure through environmental education programs;
  • Engage communities and individuals in the stewardship of Kananaskis Country through direct participation and sponsorship opportunities; and,
